Astounding Breakthroughs in the 'Science of Seating' To start, researchers 'wired' different men and women with light emitting diodes and using time-lapse photography studied how people 'sit' in their chairs. Then 5 years of research, development and testing (with 23 patents* as a result) revealed new breakthroughs in the science of seating that have been incorporated into the Leap? Chair and only the Leap? Chair!

Think is the simplest, most streamlined embodiment of a deep understanding of people who sit - and how they sit throughout the day. Learnings are based on research and collaboration with universities, including the Technical University of Denmark, Michigan State University and the University of Vermont Back Research Center.

To create Think, Steelcase worked with McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC), selecting only materials considered safe to the environment. They kept the chair lightweight and used as many recycled materials as possible.
